Ahead of the commencement of the Taekwondo presidents cup billed to take place in the nations capital beginning from this Friday, President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu-Baba has vowed that the present administration of the NTF will leave no stone unturned in their quest for a successful outing in their line up of events.
Alhaji Abdullahi stated this at the just concluded International Kuikiwon Seminar and Dan testing on Thursday afternoon at the press centre of the Moshood Abiola national stadium, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists on the significance of the three days president’s cup competition slated for Abuja, Alhaji Abdullahi said the importance of the championship is to prepare the federation’s Olympic prospects, and to monitor their progress in ensuring they are in good shape for the upcoming world championship, the all African games, as well as the Kebbi open championship.

“The essence of the presidents cup is to prepare our Olympic prospects, monitor them, check them, after that, we are going to the world championship. when we come back, there is Kebbi open, all these are not Poomsae, but Kyrougi competitions, you can see that we are preparing”
“By the time the year ends, our athletes must have undergone nothing less than 3,4,5 championships, with the all African games stepping in when we come back”
The altruistic and well seasoned sports administrator further stressed that the rationale behind camping and exposing Taekwondo athletes to this type of competitions is to build them up morally, keep them busy, and avoid having them sitting idle, as that’s part of the federation’s top priorities.
“We may not have gone to 10 international championships, but we are building them locally instead of sitting idle doing nothing until when the federal government calls in for camping which is not good, that is why we are camping them, exposing them to competitions and training them”
“I assure you, by the time the federal government will call in for training camp, my athletes, our Taekwondo athletes will be ready. we are not going to Ghana for jamboree, we are going there to get results, and by the time we get to Ghana, we know we’ll be ready for the Olympics, we know who are our Olympic prospects” he concluded.
