Super Falcons substantive captain and FC Levante Las Planas of Spain center back, Onome Ebi has set sight on achieving historic feat with the national team when this year’s edition of the senior women’s FIFA world cup gets underway in Australia and New Zealand later this year.
Speaking exclusively to paimedia.com.ng at the headquarters of the Nigeria Football Federation on Friday in Abuja, the rock solid defender said the team is poised to question the norm and defy every odd that led to their second round exit from the tournament in 2019.
The Former FC Minsk of Belarus staunch defender further expressed confidence in the ability of the caliber of players at their disposal, believing they have the wherewithal to usurp their previous records at the forthcoming global showpiece.
“The last world cup we passed the group stage, this time around with the caliber of players we have, my personal target is to pass the stage we were eliminated the last time out which is the round of 16, hopefully we will pass that stage, that is my target”
“For the team’s target, we will try to get past the group stage first and we see how we go from there”
And ahead of the Mexico invitational tournament, Onome thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation for securing the preparatory games, affirming it is an important one for the team, and further assured of the team’s readiness to judiciously use every opportunity they get for the purpose of achieving greater results for the country.
“It is a very good one, I think we have two FIFA breaks before the world cup and this one is very very important and I believe we will judiciously use every opportunity we get”
“For the game, it is a very good one for the team and I believe myself, the team and the coaching crew will do the best to deliver the goal of becoming a successful team” she stated.
The Super Falcons will be participating in a four-nation tournament tagged ‘Revelation cup’ in Mexico, as part of preparations for the forthcoming 9th Fifa women’s world cup finals in Australia And New Zealand this summer.
