Super Eagles prospect and CFR Cluj of Romania striker, Peter Michael says he is optimistic his side will fight to claim a spot in European cup competition next season.
He stated this when he spoke exclusively to paimedia.com.ng from his base in Romania ahead of his club’s quarter final crunch cup game tie against Corvinul Hunedoara on Tuesday.
It appears CFR Cluj are no longer in contention to clinch the Romanian league this season, as they are currently sitting 3rd on the league table, 11 points adrift of table toppers FCSB, and Peter believes channeling their efforts to the cup game will guarantee them an automatic spot in Europe next next season in case their push for the league title fails to actualize.
“We have our cup game on Tuesday which is the quarter finals and an important game for us because right now it looks like winning the league has become a little bit elusive, so our focus is on the cup game because we need to win the cup game to give us a spot in the Europa”
“So we are channeling all our efforts to winning the cup game and probably finish second in the league because winning the league is kinda hard at the moment”
A win for CFR Cluj on tuesday evening against Corvinul Hunedoara will birth a semi final ticket for the (Ceferiștii) otherwise known as (The CFR People), with the hope of overcoming all opposition to become the Romanian cup champions.
paimedia.com.ng reports that Peter Michael was a 69th minute substitute on Friday evening when he came off the bench to help rescue a point for his side in a 1-1 draw away to SEPS.
